The Rest of the Weekend

Sunday Brad and I decided to check out Harajuku. This is the fashion district of Tokyo including cheaper stores as well as high end boutiques. On Sundays some people will dress up and hang out on a bridge outside the station.

After walking up and down Harajuku we headed across the bridge towards Meiji Shrine. It was crazy after being surrounded by buildings and concrete to suddenly be in a lush, green park after a 10 minute walk. Besides a building peaking over the trees every once in a while, you truly felt like you were in a completely different place. Meiji Shrine was the first shrine that we visited while in Japan so it was interesting to see the differences in the religious culture. Before entering a shrine, people wash their hands and mouths out, there's incense, money throwing, and prayers written down. Obviously its more complex than that but I'm not an expert...

After visiting Meiji Shrine we headed towards Shibuya to meet up with Chris and his girlfriend Yoko. Shibuya is home of the busiest intersection in the world as well as more shopping...

Then we went to an area called Akihabara, known for being the technological district, a.k.a  a nerd's paradise. We went into several arcades, found plenty of Star Wars paraphernalia, tried some takoyaki (octopus balls), and headed back to Shibuya for dinner. Guess what we had? Mexican food! yum!

Oh yeah, and then we went bowling. I would call that a busy day!
